7 Weeks Pregnant

A full day without a migraine. I almost hate to say for fear it may jinx me. But, I figure no matter what, if I'm going to get one, I'll get one.
I'm praying I won't have another one for the rest of my pregnancy, but I'm sure I will have one at some point.

A Migraine Hangover

I have had a total of 10 migraines in 12 days. And of course I woke up about 6 a.m. with a headache. I've heard that headaches after a migraine are common.
I've been feeling real weak for the past few days. I am drinking lots of fluids, (mostly water) getting a lot of bed rest, but not very good sleep. My eyes are bothering me also. I'm just trying to get through this pregnancy one day at a time. I just wish the days would go by a little faster now.
At least today I was able to get up and go outside and play with my kids for a little while. I just hope that some of the things I did today don't show up in a migraine tomorrow. I realize that most of my migraines are from hormones at this point. I can't help but wonder about the hormones. With all the migraines I've been getting and how often they come, I have a feeling I'm pregnanct with twins.
I'm still going to try and avoid any of the triggers that cause them otherwise. I made sure when I was outside that I wore sunglasses, so I hope that helped.
By the time I went back to bed this evening I had no migraine. I'm hoping I won't be awoke by one during my sleep tonight.

Another Migraine, Another Day of Pain

I had another migraine today at about 12:15 pm
At the first signs of this migraine, I immediately took a dose of vicodin and a compazine suppository and went to bed.

Another migraine at 1:30 p.m. By 3 p.m. I took another dose of vicodin.
I slept for the rest of the day.

I've been told that these medications won't harm the baby. I'm praying the doctors are right.
Sometime the pain is so severe I just want to end this pregnancy, but I've already bonded with the little one. I hope the migraines will stop soon so I can enjoy the remainder of my pregnancy.
I know there must be other women who have or are suffering the same as I am, and I wonder what they are doing to get through the pain. I would love to hear from anyone who is pregnant with migraines.

Another Migraine, Another Dose of Pain Killers

I woke up feeling tired today, so I pretty much rested mostly.
I thought I was going to feel fine for awhile. I even got up and talked with my family.

Then about 6:00 p.m. I got a migraine. I put my hands in hot water for awhile to see if it would help to stop my migraine, but it didn't seem to help.

I then took my daily nephedipine along with a vicodin and a compazine suppository.

My migraines are hurting behind my eyes, they never did that before. But, something seemed to help tonight because I'm not feeling too bad.

I'm still waiting for a referral to the neurologist from Kaiser. I'm hoping it comes through soon.

Another Migraine, Another Trip to the Emergency Room

I went to bed last night still feeling wiped out from the migraine I had early in the morning.

I woke up around 9:00 a.m. with another migraine. It felt so bad I had to call Kaiser to see what can be done to relieve the pain. The advice nurse told me the doctor said to go to the emergency room to get my pain under control and he would work on getting a referral to see a neurologist.

The doctor I saw today had a different take on the situation. He wants me to take more of a natural approach to dealing with the pain. He believes that I should exercise and eat a healthy diet.

Another Migraine, Another Day of Sleeping

I had another migraine about 2:30 a.m.
I was in so much pain I took vicodin and reglan and slept most of the day.
When are these migraines going to stop?! I don't know how long I can take this. These migraines hurt worse than any migraine I've had.

Another Trip to The Doctor

I woke up feeling better today.
When I went to see my OB we discussed alternatives to medication.
I'm to continue on the nephedipine and use Reglan for nausea and vomiting.
Some suggested antidotes that may be helpful:
1. Put my hands in hot water or take a hot shower at the very onset of signs of my migraine
2. Wear sunglasses
3. Wear a hat with a brim
4. No caffeine
5. Stay out of direct sunlight
6. Warm or cold cloth on head

The doctor said he would prefer that I didn't take any medication, but if I had to it, it would be okay. He said he would prefer that I try other remedies and get pain shots as needed. I would rather take the nephedipine daily and then use what I can on an as needed basis.

I was hopeful when I left from my visit. I hadn't had a migraine since Saturday morning.

6 Weeks Pregnant

Today I woke up without a migraine....finally!
I'm still exhausted from 5 days straight having migraines one after another.
Maybe the medication (nephedipine) I'm taking is helping. I hope I'll have relief from migraines during this pregnancy.
I wonder if anyone else has had migraines so early in their pregnancy. Also, I would be curious to find out if those pregnant with girls had more migraines, sooner and more severe. I had my migraines with my daughter in my second trimester and they seemed to come more often and more severe. I was able to control the migraines with nephedipine when I was pregnant with my son, but not with my daughter.
Could I be pregnant with a girl? Or possibly two girls? Could this be a sign I'm having twins? Maybe that's why I'm having migraines so soon and so often with this pregnancy.
Finally today I was able to play with my kids in the yard and go shopping.
I feel like I'm starting to get morning sickness now. I'm feeling a little dizzy and sick to my stomach.
I hope I will be able to get a good night sleep tonight.
Tomorrow I have an appointment with my OB/GYN to talk about my migraines. I'm also concerned about how all the pain medication I've gotten will affect the baby. I've been told that
certain pain killers won't have an adverse affect if taken sparingly.

Another Migraine, Another Trip to the Emergency Room

I woke up with a migraine about midnight and went to the emergency room about 1 a.m.
I was given what the Doctor call "some kind of cocktail for pain" (three different meds), one was benedril, another was demeral and I'm not sure what the other one was. But, the combination killed the pain for awhile.
I went home after a 3 hour stay at the hospital and I was able to sleep off and on most of the day. I was exhausted from my migraine.
I went to bed for the night at about 11 p.m. praying that I wouldn't wake up in the middle of the night with a migraine.

The Days Are Blurring Together

I woke up about 2 a.m. with another migraine. I took reglan and it seemed to help. I slept most of the day.
The days are one big blur lately. I feel if I can get through the next few weeks, I can get through the rest of my pregnancy.

Another Migraine, Another Doctor Visit

I woke up at 6:00 a.m. with another migraine.
I had a doctor appointment, but I went to Emergency Room.
I was given a shot of Reglan (anti nausea and vomiting medication) and sent home by 10:30 a.m. I was sent home with a prescription of reglan for the nausea and vomiting.
I didn't really feel much relief from the migraine.
I made an appointment to see my primary doctor, but she wasn't in so I saw another doctor. He gave me a shot of demeral and prescribed nephedipine. The demeral helped me sleep most of the day and night.

Going to work with a headache

Today is a work day for me.
I went to work with a headache and feeling tired all day.
I went to bed still having a headache.

Migraines and Positive Pregnancy Test

Today when I got out of the shower I began having my first migraine with this pregnancy.
Later on I got my results back from my pregnancy test...positive of course.
I slept most of the day and then about 10:00 p.m. I got my second migraine of the day.
I went to the emergency room and was administered an I.V. with compazine for nausea and sent home with a prescription of compazine in suppository form.
I went home a few hours later to sleep off my migraine.

Another Pregnancy Test

I took a pregnancy test today at Kaiser and my results will be in by tomorrow afternoon. I'm sure it will come out positive. I took two home pregnancy tests and they were both positive. I took the first one just 2-5 days of being late for my period. I had a feeling I was pregnant.

June 15, 2008...Home Pregnancy Test...Positive

This blog is being created in hopes that it can help others and myself who suffer from migraines. I began having migraines before the age of 6 years old. I also suffer severe migraines during pregnancy. Please feel free to share your experiences and antidotes on this blog.
Today I took a home pregnancy test and it came out positive. I have two other children and I suffered with migraines with both of them. I’m hoping I do not get migraines with this pregnancy. Being pregnant with migraines is no picnic.
During my first pregnancy I began having migraines in third trimester. My OB/GYN sent me to labor and delivery in hopes they could help me find the right medication for me. After contacting CDC (Center for Disease Control), they were told I could safely take nephedipine (a blood pressure control medication). This medication helped to control my migraines for the remainder of my pregnancy.
After my son was born I continued taking this medication because I was afraid that my migraines would come back. None of my medical care professionals told me to stop taking them. I’m not sure if it was wise of my to take them after my pregnancy was over, but I kept taking them.
When my son was 8 or 9 months old, I became pregnant with my second child. While in my second trimester I started having migraines again. I spent many hours in labor and delivery to help manage my pain. I was prescribed vicodin at that point and I continued to take nephedipine. Neither of these medications seemed to help during this pregnancy, but I continued taking them anyway. I only took the vicodin as needed for pain. I continued taking the nephedipine just in case it was working in some way.
